Vocal is a creator platform organized around a featured stories section, a latest-stories feed, Communities, Challenges and Resources, plus a paid Vocal+ tier for members. The homepage highlights handpicked stories and spotlights creators by their number of published stories on the platform.

Writing challenges run as themed contests with cash prizes, such as "Out of Season" and "Negative Space," plus a third challenge asking entrants to write a story in second person set somewhere the reader is not supposed to be, each offering a stated grand prize and a countdown of days remaining to enter. A Resources section publishes tips, guides and community updates, including a recurring biweekly discussion thread for creators and a weekly leaderboard recognizing widely-read stories and contributors on Vocal.
