Rakuten is a cashback and coupon platform where members shop through more than 3,500 partner stores and earn cash back, having paid out over $3.6 billion in cash back since 1999. Merchants pay Rakuten a commission on purchases made after a member follows its links, and that commission is shared with the member as cash back.

Advertising runs through an Affiliate Commission Program, an Affiliate Marketing Network and Featured Placement on the website and in email. Sales houses include The Moneytizer, Seedtag Advertising, Yieldlove, ShowHeroes and Rich Audience Technologies, and the site's ads.txt lists 132 ad systems.
