City A.M has become the first U.K. publisher to ban readers which have ad blocking software enabled on their browsers. The free business and financial newspaper has found 20 per cent of its 1.2 million monthly visitors have ad blockers installed. It plans to extend the trial later on, and depending on the outcome will also consider the potential for subscription models.

City AM’s ad-blocker ban extends to brand content
City AM is known for taking a tougher stance on ad blocking in the U.K. and is now applying the same method to branded content that runs on its site. The business and finance daily newspaper lets advertisers publish direct to its site via the same CMS its journalists use. That means all branded content features the same ad-blocker ban as its editorial pages.
