Breitbart declares war on Kellogg’s after brand pulls advertising
So-called “alt right” news website Breitbart is asking its readers to boycott Kelloggs after the brand said it was going to pull ads from its website. It is asking its 45 million readers to stop buying Kellogg’s products. Other brands have already said they would pull advertising.

Breitbart and the ad tech complex that enables its brand of news
Hard-right sites like Breitbart News that have been called a hate-news site exist and thrive in part because of programmatic advertising. The rise of such sites has put pressure on Google and Facebook to stop placing advertising on those sites, but there’s a long list of other programmatic and ad tech companies that in effect enable it by having business relationships with them, including content-recommendation engine Taboola and AOL’s Advertising.com. It’s an outgrowth of the rise of programmatic advertising, where ads are placed at scale based on audience target, not site environment.
